Yoram Eliyahu Helping His Hometown

Yoram Eliyahu Roots

Yoram Eliyahu was born and raised in Kirat-Shmona, a small city in the northern mountains of Israel. Kirat-Shmona is the northernmost city in Israel, situated on the Israel-Lebanon border. The city is known for its proximity to the Manara kibbutz, and is the smallest city in Israel to be home to a top flight football club, the Hapoel Ironi Kiryat Shmona.

Because of it’s location, Kirat-Shmona has long been a target of enemy rocket attacks. During Israel’s 2006 conflict with Lebanon, while most residents of Kirat-Shmona had either left the town or were staying in bomb shelters, many structures including the synagogue were badly damaged. Upon hearing of this damage following the conflict, Yoram Eliyahu, despite living in the United States, immediately sent funds to his hometown to aid in the rebuilding of the synagogue. Though no longer living in Israel, Yoram Eliyahu’s bonds to his homeland are strong and being a successful real estate developer, he was in a unique position from which to lend assistance. His donation helped to rebuild the synagogue following the conflict.

He also commissioned a new Sefer Torah for the synagogue, a hand written copy of the sacred scriptures. Upon completion of the new Sefer Torah, Yoram Eliyahu went to great lengths to ensure it reached its new home in the Kirat-Shmona synagogue safely. The Sefer Torah is a source of pride to the local community and continues to be in use at the synagogue.

Yoram Eliyahu now living in a Long Island community not far from New York City with his wife and children, Yoram Eliyahu is a proud supporter of his native country and he and his family are regular visitors to Israel.
